Dear Diary,
My name is Maria and I live in Los Angeles, California. I am originally from Mexico but my family migrated here for a better life of freedom and business. Although my parents enjoy living in this environment and are becoming very successful and accomplishing, I do not feel the same. World War II set off one of the biggest mass migrations in American history causing people from all around the world to settle in America (Danzer et al. 591). Over fifteen million people moved from their home countries in search for jobs and following their family members (Layman). Defense industries in towns noticed the populations doubling and tripling (Danzer et. al 591). People were very satisfied with the way things turned out for them; however, we were also treated unfairly. Since migrants, like my family, were new to the cities and places, we were most of the time treated differently and stood out because of our ethnicity (Jeffries). We were often discriminated against and judged us from where we are from (Jeffries). Once migrants were appearing in the United States often, people started to realize a shortage of consumer goods (Jeffries). This led up to wartime censorship causing civil liberties to be taken away from Americans (Jeffries).
